Victoria Fairbroke sat on the balcony of a ten story building. Her silver-blond hair whipped around her face, given life by the wind. Her brilliant lavender eyes were focused on an undetermined point on the horizon. Pink, red, and purple streaked the sky, signaling the end of the day. Her eyes squinted, tortured by the last bright ray of light before the day gave way to the blessed darkness of night. She reached back silently gathering her hair, ending its relentless struggle against the wind. Her fingers deftly wove it into a braid, and tied it off with a ribbon she kept wrapped around her wrist. Her leathery wings snapped once, claiming defiance to the world, though there was no one there to witness it. Her whip-like tail moved relentlessly, telling tales of Victoria's restlessness, even though the rest of her body did not move at all. Completely contrary to her body's stillness, her mind was racing with the thoughts of how she came to be where she was. Her sister, Alanna, who had started her journey by her side, had disappeared years ago, leaving her sister to fend for herself. Deep down, Victoria realized that it was her own fault that her dear sister left...
When she met Ven, someone she had heard about a lot since coming to Cassis, she had decided that it might be fun to .. see what he had in store. She searched him out, almost forgoing it all after hearing he had left. After a while, she heard of his return. Hope renewed, she again searched him out, eager to hear what exactly he had in store for the school, and the town itself. He was an interesting character. As Victoria walked up to him, she couldnt help but notice the scales that covered his body just as he was relaxing. His forked tongue tweaked her curiousity, and she just had to stop and say hello...
After talking for just a short while, Victoria offered him her help, knowing that working with him would be a worthwhile experience. He took her up on her offer, on one condition.
That she give up who she was...
The thought outraged Victoria. He had no right to ask such a thing of her! To give up her power.. to give up being a succubus?! Never! She outright refused him at first and left right then, telling him only that if he wanted to go anywhere in his self proclaimed war, that having an army of only duplicates of himself would get him nowhere. But as she thought about it..the more intriguiging the thought became.
It had been too long since she had heard from Anzien..after she told him she loved him...he had disappeared. Her sister had been strangely absent as well, and Victoria had no other friends...No one to talk to. She wondered constantly if her being a succubus was what made everyone so cold to her. She decided then that she no longer wanted to be alone.
The next day, Victoria visited Ven once more, this time taking a 'truth' serum, that of course Victoria knew was anything but that. It seemed to tear at her insides, as she changed into something of a snake, and herself as a succubus formed in her mind, appearing in front of her eyes, calling her ignorant. Victoria spat out, " Ignorant.. and alone. Can't you see that I had to do it? I cannot stand being alone!" She shook her head violently, a headache making her skull want to explode. She could feel the part of her that was a succubus slip away. A jagged, tearing, ripping feeling that left her empty. She cried, rolling over on her side, feeling as if she were dying. "What have I done?" She whispered.
It was only shortly after that the war began. Victoria had been asleep in her dorm when the first bomb exploded, awaking her with a start. She scrambled out of bed, searching desperately for her sister. Alanna was nowhere to be seen, yet again. Confused and scared, Victoria ran down the hallway in search of someone that could help her, but there was no one that wasnt in a bind of their own. She fled the building, running through the woods, terrified. What a help she was.. She fell to her knees crying as she felt a change in her.
She felt, normal again. She felt the ripping of skin as her horns burst through her forehead, and her wings caught up in her shirt, her tail appearing as the clothing that somehow came over her in her change took over her nightgown and ripped it to shreds. She stood up, looking like Victoria, not some reptile freak. Ignorant girl...Dont you know that being a succubus is no gene you can suppress? It is who you are, your body and your mind. She could feel that familiar presence and she smiled and nodded. She sighed, turning back. She had ran because she had no idea what she could do in the form given to her by Ven, but now.. She knew what to do. She walked back to the town, to help them fight.
She used her powers to seduce the other men, turning them to the gifteds side. What ones she could not, she merely killed the best way she knew how. On some the seduction only lasts for a little while, so she took their souls, their life-force. She helped, but during the battle she wondered where her sister was, to tell her the good news. But after Alanna had heard of her sister's transgression, she had left her there to fend for herself. And Anzien? ...No where that she could see. She left then, happy that she was herself, but crushed under that familiar knowledge of being alone.
So here Victoria was. A victor of triumphs that only she had knowledge of. She stood up slowly, graceful on the edge of the balcony, staring out into a cold, unforgiving world. With a deep sigh and a small smile in remembrance for all the fun she had, she stepped off of the balcony.
