Jonelle perished in a freak roller coaster accident. She fell hundreds of feet after slipping through the handlebar when the coaster stalled a little in the middle of a loop. The government showed up soon after and took her remains, and no one stopped them. The war hadn't started yet. It wasn't at all suspicious.
The government took her DNA and experimented with it as a preliminary study before they would wage the resounding war, but couldn't find out how she was made, although a natural birth was ruled out due to overwhelming evidence.
The government tracked down Jonelle's "father" and interrogated him. Eventually, the "gifted" gene secret being discovered by the government as well, they decided that they could construct their own to spy on Cassis more effectively. However, the leader of the assault project demanded that the war began sooner than the creation would allow, the research was filed away, and Jonelle's remains were destroyed. Mr. Steele, Jonelle's father, was terminated.
When the war on the gifteds came, Kamon was taken in his sleep, deemed as to destructive and risky to be taken awake. The company was still developing anti-electricity systems, and they needed him immediately. He was fooled, tested on, and kept in a large cage. Kamon ran out of energy fast due to drugs in the food, and therefore could not use his power to escape.
After a year of cramped conditions and tests, mistakes and conclusions, Kamon lay awake one night in his cage. This wasn't special, but the night was. No one had come to rescue him, and it wasn't as though it would be hard. A few other gifteds were kept here, and it was obvious that after a year someone could infiltrate this weak base. However, they hadn't, and Kamon seethed on the first anniversary of his capture.
Several worried scientists bustled into his room late at night. Kamon is no idiot, and he soon realized that they predicted an early death. They tore him out of his cage and placed him into suspended animation, keeping his mind and body in a perfect stasis. He was freed 9 years later when the other lab rat gifted managed to escape. In a final battle with a few of his captors, he released the same amount of destructive force that destroyed the gang of telepath girls many years before. Still 16, Kamon lives in the rubble of the base. He constantly thinks about returning to Cassis, unaware that it has been destroyed.
The assault on the base where Jonelle had been taken to destroyed all evidence held there, including the "gifted" gene. The secret is held by only one now.
