Nick sipped his coke, keeping his eyes down on the table in front of him. Gently placing the cup on the table, he raised his eyes ever slightly to glance out the window to the busy street. Pulling the glove off of his right hand, he exhaled a shuddering breath, an icy mist obscuring his view a half a second. It was no where near cold enough for their to be an icy mist, and no where near cold enough to be wearing gloves and a large parka. Which was probably why he was getting so many strange looks. But he was used to it by now.
Flexing his fingers, Nick watched as a light layer of frost settled on top of his coke, and he grimaced. He hated the cold. Why'd he get stuck with a power that he absolutely hated. Glaring at the innocent fountain drink, Nick shoved his glove back on and crossed his arms. Now he lightly rocked his head to the sound of music coming out of the headphones he always wore. It helped keep his mind off the cold. And kept him from freezing things that didn't need to be frozen.
He needed company, is what he needed. Not music, not a large parka with fur on the edges of the hood. He needed friends. But ever since he lost touch with his family and Glacia, he didn't talk to anyone except co-workers. No. He needed some friends.

A young woman sat by a window, short nails tapping out a soft rythem that matched her humming. Her jeans were only loose around the legs, but hugged her hips as they shoulder. The black, off the shoulder, shirt she wore was long and came half-way down her thighs with a brown leather belt found about her waist with a huge brass buckle. A black fidora sat atop her head at an angle towards the right eye. A soft colored scarf underneath it, made her look kind of sophisticated.
A white, round, mug sat on a small saucer by the hand that tapped gentle on the tabletop. It was filled with a deep brown liquid, topped with a frothy foam as per her request. Her brown eyes looked out the window aimlessly. As if she had all the time in the world to drink that one coffee. Ah, but she felt a slight twinge of loneliness. She was, as it is obvious, alone at her small round table. And though she was okay with it, life was always a little more fun with someone else.
" You can reach me by Caravan, Cross the desert like an aran man. I dont' care how you get her, get here if you can." She sang softly to herself, tired of just humming. " I don't care how you get here, Get here if you can. There hills and mountains between us. Always something to get over. If I had my way, you'd be closer. I need you closer." She sang, voice getting only slightly louder. It had caught the attention of a few people near by who looked and smiled softly. They were pleased with her singing.
" There are hills and mountains between us, always something to get over. If I had a way, surely you'd be closer. I need you closer. You can wind surf into my heart. Take me on a magic carpet ride, taking me on a kite." She sang on, still tapping out the rythem on the tabletop with her finger.

Nick stopped rocking his head, and blinked. Moving the headphones off of his ears and letting them rest around his neck like a necklace, he looked around curiously. He could hear someone singing, and it wasn't the person singing in his headphones. Turning his head slightly, he caught sight of a girl at a nearby table. She was tapping her fingers on the table and singing softly. It was very good singing.
Standing slowly, Nick drained the rest of his ice-cold coke and made his way slowly towards the girl's table. Stopping a couple feet in front of her, he lowered his eyes. "Hey. I heard you singing, and just thought, I.. I..." He trailed off, adjusting his gloves and exhaling another one of those icy breaths. "I just wanted to see if I could sit with you." He said quickly and quietly, praying she could hear him so he wouldn't have to repeat himself. Wincing, he watched as the steam on her coffee abruptly stopped, and he could already see tiny ice crystals forming. Biting his lip, he debated turning around and running out of the diner, but instead his feet stayed, as if frozen to the floor.

" Hmm..." She stopped her singing when Nick approached her and tilted her head only a very little to the left while he spoke. Brown eyes looked him over, and the he appeared very nervous made her feel at ease with his prescence. He didn't seem like much of a threat to her. A hand casually lifted the small spoon on the saucer from the tiny plate and broke up the ice in the coffee as if it were a common occurence.
" I don't see why not. Please, pull up a chair and make yourself comfortable. There's no need to be so uptight. I'm not going to bite." She said with a little humor. But her calm face showed she was just messing around with him a little and wanted to break the ice. ((Bad Mouse. *Headdesk*What a horrible Pun!)) She motioned with her hand to a chair as a suggestion for him to sit.

Nick smiled lightly, then sat in a chair across from her. Watching as she didn't even glance twice at the ice in her coffee, Nick felt as though a great burden was being lifted off him. Feeling much more at ease, Nick leaned back in his chair and tilted his head to the side slightly. "So do usually come and perform here?" He asked, fiddling with his hood and shuddering slightly. Hearing a distinct droan of music, Nick turned his attention to his CD player, turning it off and making it silent once more. Silent, if you don't count the numerous voices speaking to one another throughout the diner. Then he lifted his head again and watched the girl quietly. Then he remembered. "Oh, by the way, i'm Nick."

" Perform? Nick, I've not performed on a stage for sometime. If I were to now, I would need saxaphone, maybe a trumpet our two, a drummer and of course a bass-guiatar pair." The girl said smiling softly, as she looked at him. She hadn't turned her head to look at him, just moved her eyes about (half of the right being hidden by her scarf on her head). He seemed like someone like her. Someone that had needed some company at the moment.
" Well my fellow Company-Seeking Friend, I go by Carmen Loris. Pleasure to meet you." She said with a smile, finally turning to look at him fully. She had sipped from the now chilled coffee and didn't seem to mid the fact it had gone cold or had ice floating in it. IT didn't bother her at all in fact. Carmen merely held out her hand, smiling a very frail and almost invisible smile.

Nick chuckled, straightening his head and smiling at her. "I had no idea someone with as much talent as you would need other people." Coughing lightly, Nick ducked his head to hide his blush. Instead he reached his hand out and shook her extended hand, quickly. "It's nice to meet you too."
Nick raised his head and stared at Carmen's iced coffee for a second, then decided that his curiousity had to be satisfied. "Do you not mind that I accidently froze your coffee?" He blurted out. If this girl wasn't suprised, then she must be gifted as well. But he couldn't be to sure.

" So it was your prescence? I figured as much." Carmen said, lowering her mug to rest on it's saucer. She looked up and shook her head slowly, allowing him the knowledge that she didn't mind at all. It was just as good cold as it was warm. " It's alright. I like both hot and iced coffee. As long as it's from columbia." She explained with a smile, once more sipping at her coffee.
Carmen smiled at the compliment. Band shook her head a little. " Talented or not, It's more fun when you have help. Singing jazz requires all parts of the band. Just as I feel poetry and bongo's were made for each other." She explained calmly, her voice never loosing that welcoming and kind tone to it. " But, thank you for the compliment." Added the young woman, nodding her head a little bit.
