A door creaked open, letting in a tepid draft that also let out the cool air of the memorial site. A foot stepped into the building, but halted just short of actually making it all the way inside. A shaft of light glared harshly on the concrete floor, making a pathway to the main statue in the middle of the room. Gray hair swung slowly, given life by the wind, showing up inside the door way for seconds before the wind swept it back outside. Head turned downward, unable to look at the inside of the building, Cassie warily stepped her other foot to greet the other inside the building.
It had been ten years since the war..and the memory was fresh on her mind. After the war however..she had lost about three years of her life. Her memory went completely blank. After Inu died..
Hair flung wildly as Cassie shook her head. "Must not think on it.. Or else I fear I will go mad again." She said softly into the empty space in front of her. The door swung shut, pushing the cool air at her back like an almost physical force. A sign maybe? One that tells her that it is time to confront her worst fear. Inu's name engraved on that monumental statue? Among many many others? A tear left a silvery trail down her cheek as the pale glow from the lights on either side of the hall illuminated the tear upon her face.
A foot stepped forward, almost against her will, and her hands balled up into fists, trying to prepare herself. Thus, it was all in vain. Her head lifted slowly, gazing almost in horrified awe at the number of names on that slab of marble. All in alphabetical order. Her hand lifted slowly, as dull green eyes sparkled with tears. "So unfair.." She whispered, the sadness etched in her voice almost as solidly as that on the object in front of her had names etched in stone.
Her hand trailed lightly upon the front of the stone, her fingers bumping as it hit the trails of engraved names. "I....I...I.." She muttered, over and over again as she looked for the name that meant the most to her. The names were in alphabetical order, so she went from the top of the I's..to find I..N..U. Inutaisho.. Inu for short. Her best friend. Her hand hit the name before her eyes, and stopped without thought. Slowly, her eyes landed on the place where her hand had stopped.
"Here Lies Inu. Not Human, But Still A Friend, Still A Hero."
Cassie's knees buckled. She fell, her head bent, hair covering the tears running so freely down her face, hiding the sadness..and the absolute pride that she held for that snake. "Inu.. I miss you so..."

The sound of black stilletto boots was fallowed by the foot fall of heavy brown boots as two young woman walked into the building. A woman, or young woman, that was tall and lean looked to her shorter companion and then looked to the room before her. Erysa and Hydi Carlson had come to see if their mother's name was removed from the Missing In Action section or not. They looked almost timid as they slowly passed by the weeping Cassie. Erysa walked on by, eyes only lingering for a moment. However, Hydi had stopped and turned to face Cassie's crying figure as she looked to Inu's grave.
" Here." Came the gentle words of Hydi, walking over and bending at the waist. A kind hand held out a small white tissue, folded diagonally to be a triangle. Hydi's own hazel eyes seemed to fill with tears as she heard the girl weep. It was murder on Hydi to see such a sad sight as a person mourning their friend so beautifully. Erysa had stopped now, back to the scene, with her arms crossed over her chest. Her beautiful and pale face was turned a bit to the left shoulder to allow her dark eyes a better view of the events unfolding.
" Please, take this tissue." Hydi had continued this time sitting on her knees beside case, her face to Cassie's profile. " Hyde." Erysa sighed, not wanting her sister to push things on the already upset woman. " Don't push things." Came the gruff finish of her thoughts before Erysa turned and walked with that strange grace back towards her younger sister and the woman before the grave.
" I'm not pushing things Ery. I'm offering her a tissue to whipe her blow her nose and dry her eyes." Her reply was one of a serious tone, and held a bit of annoyence as she turned a wicked glare on her elder sister, Erysa. Turning back to face Cassie she looked at the stone, and read the names. Now Rebecca Carlson, not on this stone. Turning she shook her head to Erysa, letting her sibling grasp the fact their mother was either found or still missing.
" I'm Hydi Carlson." The young teenager had decided to make a pleasent introduction, perhaps to brighter the girls mood, if only a little. Cassie seemed down and it didn't seem that Hydi liked it all that much. " Hyde, I don't think now would be th mom-" Erysa was hushed by the sharp glare from her sister. Again, Erysa turned her back on the scene and looked away. " The Ice Queen behind us is my older sister, Erysa." Hydi said, trying to add even more of a hope of just maybe a slight smile.
Ice Queen? Ha! Erysa's mentality laughed and she took note to 'kill' her sister later in the day. However, the 19 year old did not turn to look at her annoying younger sister. Instead, those strange red-brown eyes fell on a list which hung near by. It bore the names of the missing, and Erysa was itching to know if her mother had been found. However, showing she did care -even if it was only a little- she stood where she was. Her black glove covered arms fell and she looked over her shoulder at her sister and Cassie once more.
Of course, they weren't the only three in the memorial. A person, who had been on the Missing list until recently, stood before the rows of caskets and pictures. Red eyes, flecked with magenta, shifted from face to face. The woman's own face seemed stern, sincere and a bit lonely. She wore a pale pink shirt, white frills about the neck line. Black string tied up the front, showing a darker pink underneath. Down the left and right sides of the criss-crossing tie (starting from beneath her bossom) was more white frills which ended at her waist with the shirt. With it she wore a black skirt, a shimmer material made it up. The skirt was pleated and fell to brush the tops of her knees in the front. In the back, it was slightly longer.
Her golden hair had only grown dark over the years, and of course, had been cut. She wore it half up using skull barrets. Her magenta nails - middle and thumb - plucked very gently at her lip. A bad habbit she had developed. Eyes slowly fell on a face she had known, and lingered for a moment. Then, slowly shifted to another unknown face. So many had died, all for the rights of people like her and like themselves. These were the heroes. These were the people that deserved to be mentioned in every textbook.
No one would know it was her, not at first glance at least. Little Carmela Ikaris had gotten taller, and filled out more. The black strappy pumps she wore, made soft clicking noises as she shifted her weight. Fingers, two of which having large silver rings, fell from her lip to her side as Carmela once again found a familiar face. It was a bit depressing, looking at people she had once known.
" You." She began, her voice still as gentle and easily carried as before. " You are the heroes my friends. " She finished. Her soft lips curled in a warm smile to the pictures before her. And slowly, fingers entwining behind her back, Carmela backed away and turned after a few steps. " May you always rest in peace." She added, looking over her shoulder once more. Again there was a soft smile, and her fingers lossened to allow her hands to fall to her side. With that, Carmela carried one with her walking. Prehaps to the exit, or maybe to the wall mentioning the Missing people.
As she drew nearer the scene with the other three, she took note that one was somewhat huddled on the floor, one offering a tissue and one looked to be trying to be cool. Teenagers Carmela shook her head and allowed her light step to carry her towards the scene a little more. Curiousity was choking her, almost to death. Her mind wondered who the three were. As, she herself, might have known either their parents, aunts or whatever.

Blonda hair covered by a hat moved slowly as footsteps could barely be heard. The form of a girl walked slowly through the memorial site in which so many people had to be recognized. THey were hero's some more than others, but none the less hero's. They founght in the war against cassis and the the goverment and somehow Cassis did prevail. HOpes and dreams failed most, while some still occured. HEr hopes and dreams left her the day she found out her brother died. His memorial site was here as well as many others. She never took the time to know anyone else, just for the simple fact that the time that she was sent to cassis, is the time the war was starting. The only person she remembered was Nashino, who was kind enough to help her when her brother was kidnapped..taken from her... her only family. Folding up her arms, she trudged carefully letting her eye's catch a glimpse of each name on the memorial sites until her vision stopped on one name, with the casket with his picture on it. Lexi felt a cold chill run down her back as she neared it more. Wyatt Mason Her eye's started to water up immediatly as she fell to her knee's and leaned her head down afraid to look at the name any longer. Silent words came from her form. "I should had fought harder to find you. It's all my fault your dead. If I was only stronger to fight them off. To go after you... you'd still be here with me! THe damn goverment officials that took you are dead now... I made sure of that. The war is over with though." She paused a moment to catch her breath and wipe away a tear that hadn't been seen in years. Her tough outter appearance wouldn't let that happen, but she found it impossible to hold it back any longer. "Alot of your classmated died in the fight. Some lived. I pity the ones who lived... especially if they lost someone they loved. This world has changed so much... and I feel so alone with out you Wyatt! I'll come back again.... just not right now." She looked around for a moment, before getting up and standing once again. She walked backwards away from her brother, if anyone saw her they would wonder what she was doing. She was afraid to turn her back on her brother again. Afraid of the consequences. Her life had already been though so much and she already turned her back on him once.. and that final time. She wasn't going to do it again. She turned the corner and put back on the tough outter appearance of her older self. She straightened out her shirt that crumpled when she sat and looped her fingers in her pants pockets. Her arms moved slightly as she stared at a few more caskets. Her eye's were on a mission to find a name. Someone that saved her the night the mansion was broken into. To see if she was recongnized as a hero. After all she was. If it wasn't for her. She wouldn't be dead either, but she was a true hero, although she barely knew her. She noticed a few people were standing around. "They must know what it's like to loose someone close to them?... Well, I wonder if anyone lost a brother?" Her words were harsh and she felt her eye's start to sparkle again, and she quickly let a hand go to each eye and keep the water from coming down. Reaching a wall with the many names on it. She headed straight for the T's. "Where are you? where.... where...." Instantly her words got lost, looking at the name of the person other than her brother that meant the world to her. Marr-ee Tsugaru A hero indeed. Saved a life, yet lost her own. Lexi looked at the name mesmerizing and she walked up to the wall and placed a hand over the name. She dropped her head slightly, closing her eye's. "Thank you Marr-ee... If only I knew about my brother before you risked your own life... I would have gladly taken your place... so I could be with him. To have taken that beating... the words... and the bullet. I would prefer it to have been me! It should have been me" Her voice seemed raspy at the end. She let her hand drop back to her side as she turned around to the name on the wall. She had reason to turn her back to her name, wishing that she would had turned her back on her those ten years ago, to save her for the ten years of being lonely... without friends... family. Her form moved slowly along the wall, her eye's falling on the names of the many hero's that risked their lives for something they beleived in.

Cassie felt more than saw someone walk up next to her, but dared not look up. She hated to let people see her cry. She slowly let her hand drift up to accept the tissue. "Thank you.." Came the words so softly from her lips that they were barely to be heard. Indeed, Cassie would almost bet on it that the other three in the building could not have heard what she told Hydi. She dried her tears, letting that wall around her heart ressurect as she tore her eyes from the name on the stone. She stood up, never wanting herself to be seen in such a sad state. She had thought she was alone. But she was wrong.. So very wrong..She turned around seeing three other women that had shown up in the room other than just Hydi. Cassie's head dropped, and she stared at her shoes. They were old..and needed to be replaced, but Cassie would have already if she had the money..
A slow, even, and low toned voice was heard from the bowed head, sifting through her fallen gray hair to reach the ears of all that deemed it necessary to listen.
"My name is Cassie. I am from Cassis. Yes, my parents knew of it, and were from the town themselves. They loved that town..but didnt want me to grow up around the people, afraid for my life. But when I got my power, there I was. Cassie of Cassis. They even named me after the town that I once lived in.. But..I cant even remember how the war ended..or how long it lasted. All I remember is losing the only thing that mattered to me." A hand slowly raised, one finger extended to point at the name that had torn her heart apart. "Inu." A tear splashed on the paved floor. She shook her head. "That is why I am here. And that is why I intend to find his body. So I might say goodbye.." She said as her head finally lifted up to view the small casket. Her hand rested on it briefly. "I have waited so long..to pay my last respects..that it is shameful.."

" It's not shameful. I'm sure he'd understand." Hydi said sweetly patting Cassie's shoulder gingerly. The young woman stood and brushed off her knees, looking to see Carmela come closer and closer. Turning her hazel eyes from that person she shifted to another, Lexi. And then back to the floor. " Well, we need to check to see if our mother's status has been changed." Hydi spoke softly, as she looked to Erysa.
" It hasn't." Came the simple and rather unhappy reply from Erysa as she turned and walked towards the door. " I doubt it ever will. She's been gone far too long to be thought of as living, I'm sorry." IT appeared that the oldest was loosing faith in the survival of their mother. However, Hydi turned in a huff and went to slap her sister, stopped when she heared hand meet cheek. It wasn't Hydi that slapped Erysa but Carmela. Her eyes flashed with anger as she shoved the younger girl back towards her sister.
" How dare you loose faith in your mother?" Carmela snapped, an accusing finger pointing at Erysa. " And even if she did die in the war, don't you dare sound disappointed. She died fighting for your rights, you selfish brat!" She snapped once more, voice raising in anger. " You call your self an sibling, yet you erase all hopes of your sister seeing her mother again. You have no right!" Growled the angered Carmela. But, Carmela was not the only one angery. The shadows would not come to Erysa's call, they would not come when she beckoned them as she had entered that feild of negation.
" And you have no right yelling at me! No right to even mention my mother!" Erysa screamed, her own anger flashing in her eyes. The taller of the two took a step forward but was shocked when her sister pulled her backwards. Looking to Hydi with confusion she asked; " Why? Why are you siding with her!" " Because, Ery, she's right." The words of the youngest drifted softer than they had ever before. Tear-filled eyes looked pleadingly to Erysa. " She's not even a gifted, she has no right to talk of our heros!" Erysa growled shooting a deadly glare at Carmela. " How do w-" Hydi was cut off.
" Not gifted? Ha! You-" A slender finger pointed at Erysa. " Have the ability to control shadows and blackholes. And your little friend there, your sister, is a chameleon. I have powers to sense yours and negate[/u] them. Wondering why you can't use them around me? It's because you're around me." Explained a stern sounding Carmela. Stepping closer she smirked up to Erysa and chuckled softly.
" As for having a right to speak of our[/b] heroes...I have every right. Because if not for being trapped in a damn machine I would have been able to fight along side them." Growled the once happy Carmela. Her hand shot out and pointed to the missing section. " You've read that wall a hundred times, right? Did you ever read my name, I wonder?"
" What's your name?" Hydi asked, her concentration severely on Carmela now. Eyes that swiftly moved to look at Cassie shifted back to Hydi as a smile creeped across Carmela's face. She backed up and nodded to Cassie. " I was one of her piers, a fellow student at Cassis. My name?" Carmela looked smug and laughed softly once more. " Is Carmela Ikaris." When she stated her name, the final part of her thoughts, it carried well through out the memorial building. It was a loud, strong declaration that she wasn't afraid to be herself and that her name was nothing to be ashamed off.

Lexi's form moved slowly as it had before, still gazing upon the names on the wall. Alot of the names she didn't recongnize but she wished that she could have known some of them. To be able to risk their lives to save anothers is an honorable mention as she had once to know someone for just a few short minutes and that girl still bears in her mind alot. The horrible vision of her falling to the ground seemed to be her nightmare every time she closed her eye's. She never could go to sleep without replaying that vision in her head. The distant memory that always became a close up thought. She dropped her head to read a few names on the bottom of the list. Anthony Briggs Returned to the Earth that he loved so much She smiled to see that at least he'd be somewhere where he seemed to be happy. I wonder what happened to him? I wonder how he died? Fighting... running... hiding? Or did he die saving someone else? The vision of the girl falling instantly appeared in her head again as a hand went up to her head to try to viciously get the thought from her mind. If only she was able to talk to that girl again to tell her thanks... maybe even sorry... She might beable to rest in peace. "Rest in peace... That's how I should be right now... Not her!" She whispered to herself and took her present situation back realization. "These people are hero's. Thank you!" She spoke a bit louder, her head nodded to the names as if the words engraved on the walls was a link to the person's body. She turned her attention to the girls that was near her and she didn't make any note to smile. SMile? Lexi? A smile hadn't been found on Lexi in years. Nothing seemed to make her happy. She paused a moment to listen to their conversation. Is Carmela Ikaris The words echoed in Lexi's head, but it didn't ring any notes to her.

Cassie looked at the box longingly. "I know he wouldnt think so..He never blamed me for anything..never held a grudge.." She mumbled, running her hand lovingly over the box lid. She had the sudden urge to open the box and she didnt know why, but the urge was stifled when a resounding smack jerked her out of her reveries. "Wha-?" She turned around to see Carmela standing there, a look of madness upon her face. She never really spoke to Carmela at all, but knew who she was. The little girl let everyone know who she was, whether they wanted to or not. She was a chipper little girl, loving and carefree..but now.. What had the war done to that innocent little girl?
Cassie's face took on a look of confusion. "My peer?..." She glanced closely at this girl, trying to place the face that so very slightly held the same look of that small girl she once saw and heard about. "Carmela...The name is familiar.." She whispered. She really wanted to stay out of it, seemingly a bad little fight going on. She stepped back, her hand still holding the coffin protectively. She looked over to Lexi. She seemed so sad and so confused.. Cassie wondered if the girl was going to say anything, but she just kept walking around the room, stopping to look at a name or two every few moments. She looked upset at a few of them, and curious about others. Cassie wondered why she never really wanted to look at any other name than the one that held the body of her beloved Inu. She looked down at the hand that couldnt let go. Her brow furrowed as she began to slowly lift up the lid to the box..."Empty?" She asked, quite a bit louder than she had meant to. She looked in...nothing.
